Central delivers a full slate of trade association and development services dedicated to advancing the interests of the credit union system at large. Evolving over time in response to credit union needs, these "non-financial" functions are broadly grouped to encompass government relations, risk management, corporate communications and public relations, business development, marketing, market research and human resources.

As the official voice of credit unions, Central's government relations activities focus on legislative advocacy and liaison with regulators. Our role in risk management ranges from consulting and training on security and loss prevention strategies to administration of the system's master bonding and insurance programs.

Under the communications "umbrella," Central produces and distributes the system's trade, technical, promotional and corporate publications in print and online formats. Central also maintains a business library and reference service.

Central facilitates credit union growth and development with a range of planning, research and implementation services in the areas of business strategy, wealth management and insurance. Our focus is to support credit unions, at the individual, group or system level, in forging solutions to business issues and capitalizing on market opportunities. In our integrator role, we foster collaboration among credit unions on matters of mutual concern to boost their access to economies of scale and reduce duplication of effort.

Central also designs and implements of comprehensive wealth management strategies for credit unions with services ranging from contract management to delivery of a full slate of products and services. As well, we advance the competitive positioning of credit unions in the insurance sector through management of strategic partnership arrangements and promotion of system-wide solutions for retailing insurance products and services.

Our public relations mandate includes management of conferences and special events, as well as corporate sponsorships and community involvement programs. We provide the services of our senior economist as a public speaker and media resource.

Among a mix of marketing activities, Central is responsible for product R&D and strategic planning for credit unions, and managing a province-wide communications program that includes TV advertising, promotional tie-ins and a public web site, www.creditunionsofbc.com.

Human resources consulting in the areas of compensation, performance management and employee relations is a key component of our trade association services, as is the development and delivery of training programs for credit union staff and directors.
