UNCLAIMED PROPERTY DATABASE: Procedures for Locating Owners

Pursuant to Section 10 of the Unclaimed Property Regulation, "reasonable efforts" by Credit Union Central of British Columbia to locate the owner of property will include some or all of the following:

  1. Trying to contact the owner at last known address.
  2. Trying to locate the owner in the local telephone book.
  3. Trying to locate the owner using Canada-411 on-line directory assistance.
  4. Trying to locate the owner through on-line search directories such as "InfoSpace Canada".
  5. Trying to locate owner through telephone directory assistance.
  6. Searching the local telephone book for possible relatives.
  7. Contacting a neighbour or landlord near or at the owner's last known address.
  8. Trying to locate owner through old telephone and city directories.
  9. Consulting a reverse telephone directory.
  10. Trying to locate owner through B.C. Online or B.C. Vital Statistics.
  11. Hiring a tracer or an investigator.
  12. Seeking assistance from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.
  13. Seeking assistance from Human Resources Development Canada.

The personal information requested is used to determine the rightful owner of the unclaimed property and is provided voluntarily by the person making the claim. It is used for the sole purpose of administering claims in accordance with the Unclaimed Property Act.
